5 Ways to Add Variety to your Foods!

Are you a creature of habit? I know that I am!!

It is so easy for me to get stuck eating the same foods and the same meals over and over again (like my “go-to” oats pictured below). Because I know I like them, and because I know I will tolerate them. That being said,  it’s actually not the best for hormone health and fertility.

Getting a variety of foods ➡️ more nutrients ➡️ less nutrient deficiencies and better hormone health.

It also helps keep our meals interesting and having better variety can even improve your appetite. Which I’m sure you can understand if you have ever been COMPLETELY limited to the same 5 meals… They tend to get old quickly.

And because your gut could always use a little extra love… Variety is ALSO especially important for gut health which is a key factor in how our hormones are produced and regulated.

This is because you are supporting a healthy and diverse gut microbiome. (i.e. more variety going in = more variety in the GI bacteria and more tolerance to different foods, less bloat, and less tummy issues).

This is why I typically never suggest a super restrictive diet, and my ultimate goal for people is always to have the most food options possible for them.

The gut health aspect is especially important because gut health is a key factor in how our hormones are produced and regulated. You may have heard it before, but it’s worth repeating:

“You aren’t what you eat, you are what you digest and absorb.”

It’s not just about what we are eating, it is also about what our bodies are actually using. Another reason why getting a variety of foods can be so beneficial. To give our bodies plenty of ways to get in micronutrients including vitamins and minerals.

But I also know that you don’t want to buy food you end up hating, and break the bank while doing it…

One thing that my husband and I like to do is make a game out of it! Every other week or so one of us will surprise the other with a new meal that we haven’t had before.

This allows us to have an enjoyable new meal, without going out, and we have found a ton of new foods that we love.

Looking for more ways to add variety?

  1. Add one new fruit or veggie each week and try to choose in season produce
  2. Buy small amounts of new foods and avoid buying them in bulk in case you don’t love them
  3. Search IG or pinterest for fun new recipes that include some new foods and some foods you already know that you like
  4. Try including foods that support each phase of your cycle (check out this link for 5 hormone healthy foods that I LOVE)
  5. Make it a game with a friend or partner that each week or month you make a fun new meal to share

Adding in new foods doesn’t have to be a pain in the butt, it could actually be a lot of fun! Are looking for new foods to add in that support your hormone health? Click the button below to get my 5 Hormone Healthy Foods 5 Ways!
