Have you noticed a midafternoon slump? Do you feel a little groggy, lightheaded, or lethargic in the midmorning or midafternoon?
It’s quite possible that you need a little extra nutrition and hydration at these times to keep you going through the day, especially if you suspect your blood sugar might be getting a bit low between meals (this can be more common for women than it is for men).
Adrenal cocktails (really mocktails) are named so because they contain important nutrients for adrenal function. They are a tasty drink to help support your body, promote hydration, and give you energy! Your adrenal glands are responsible for producing cortisol, aldosterone (helps regulate potassium and sodium), DHEA androgenic steroids (precursors to estrogen), and adrenaline.
These nutrient dense drinks are an easy way to love on your body and support its hormone function. These cocktails have 3 main components: vitamin C, sodium, and potassium. With an added bonus of protein/fat to help with blood sugar control.

Vitamin C: Any citrus will do! I just happen to enjoy orange juice, peach juice, and grapefruit juice.
Sodium: Whichever salt you prefer is fine to use, most commonly people use sea salt for these! It really is just a pinch. No need to completely load it up.
Potassium: I love to use coconut water or aloe vera juice! Traditionally these are made with cream of tartar, but I think a more diluted version with more liquid is better for overall hydration and blood sugar control in these drinks!
Protein/fat: You only need to use one of these, but adding a protein and/or fat such as collagen, protein powder, or coconut milk will help to slow down your digestion so you aren’t having such a blood sugar rush and crash from drinking these!
Hot-tip: If you are using a collagen protein powder, mix it into a small amount of warm/hot water and then add the cold liquids to it! This will keep it from clumping. I also like to add some bubbly on top for a little extra somethin’ and bubbly mineral waters are a great way to do this.
These are best as a mid-morning, mid-afternoon drink or with a meal. If you are drinking them on their own and not with a meal, I would suggest using a protein or fat into the drink or having a little protein snack such as a cheese stick or hard boiled egg at the same time.
I also enjoy them after working out, as they help replenish my body with carbs and electrolytes.
